Every tree is unique and wood is a timeless natural product that is dimensionally affected by fundamental physical laws such as temperature and humidity. This natural and rustic character, which makes up the special charm of wood, also entails certain limitations in the nature of the products, which must be knowingly accepted. Despite the most careful selection of materials and state-of-the-art manufacturing methods, the characteristics described, which are observed time and again in practice, must be accepted with wood. These features are inherent properties beyond our control of the material wood and cannot be claimed as defects.

Growth, colour, structure and grain are unique to every tree. Deviations are wood-related and are not grounds for complaint. Minimal growth, shrinkage or warping is also possible in the finished product!

The natural properties, differences and characteristics must therefore always be taken into account. In particular, the biological, physical and chemical properties must be considered during use. The range of natural differences in colour, structure and other respects within a wood species is one of the natural properties of the natural product wood and is not grounds for complaint or liability.

Colour differences are not a quality defect. They result from different wood moisture levels, wood species, wood structures, place of origin and growth-related influences. These colour differences may even out again after some time through various weather influences (sun, rain).

Cracks and warping of the wood can hardly be influenced by the producer and retailer, as they are a natural process of wood and cannot be avoided. Even the most careful selection of raw timber cannot prevent this effect. Drying cracks are generally permissible, as the structural properties and durability of the wood are not adversely affected. The length, depth and width of these drying cracks are not subject to any restrictions! Slight curvature and twisting are also permissible.

Roughness, sapwood, torn fibres - During planing and milling, rough spots, sapwood and tear-outs - particularly around knots or where the wood fibres run against the direction of machining - cannot always be avoided despite great care and sharp tools.

Knots are part of the natural appearance of wood and vary in number and grain. Despite careful quality control, knots occasionally falling out can unfortunately never be entirely avoided and do not constitute a reduction in quality.

Resin leakage is completely normal and unavoidable. This can still occur months after processing and is not a defect, but a natural property. Likewise, the leakage of tannic acid (e.g. in oak) is a natural process and not a defect.

Recommendation:
For every one of our natural wood products that is exposed to sun (UV) or moisture, we recommend the application of the professional wood protection from Frogsuit®, which you can also find in our shop. Wood treated with Frogsuit® lets water simply bead off, the wood receives a silky-matt sheen and is nourished.
